Purpose of Certification
Specialty certification is a voluntary process. While chiropractic licensure sets the minimum competency requirements to diagnose and treat patients, it is not specialty specific. Board certification demonstrates a doctor of chiropractic / chiropractic physician’s exceptional expertise in a specialty area of chiropractic practice. A valid chiropractic license is required for Board certification.
The intent of the orthopedic specialty certification process is to provide assurance to the public that a board certified chiropractic orthopedic specialist has successfully completed an accredited training program and an evaluation, including an examination process both oral and written, designed to assess the knowledge, experience, and skills requisite to the provision of high quality patient care in the orthopedic specialty. Diplomates in chiropractic orthopedics possess particular qualifications in this specialty.
Standards of certification are distinct from those of licensure.
