Membership and Maintenance of Credentials
Membership
Members of the Academy are designated as Fellows of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (FACO). Academy membership is comprised of board certified chiropractic orthopedists. Academy membership is limited to doctors of chiropractic who have completed the extensive post-doctoral education in non-surgical orthopedics, and have passed the orthopedic specialty board certification examination. They have been awarded diplomate certification either as Diplomate, Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (DACO) or Diplomate, American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists (DABCO).
The Academy is independent from all chiropractic political organizations. No other chiropractic organization membership is necessary for membership in the Academy.
Maintenance of Credentials
The Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists maintains a database of the credentials required of a board certified chiropractic orthopedists. The Academy serves as a sole source for verification of credentials of Academy members, Fellows of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (FACO).
Fellows of the Academy maintain current credentials through a Maintenance of Credentials program including a recredentialing continuing education process (3 year cycle) and a recertification examination (10 year cycle) for orthopedic specialty board certified doctors that recertifies current clinical competency in the specialty of chiropractic orthopedics.
The Academy presents an initial specialty board certification examination and a recertification exam, available annually.
