Shacklefords Banks, NC
One of the islands in the Cape Lookout National Seashore chain. Across Lighhouse Bay is the Cape Lookout Lighthouse in the distance. These salt marsh ponies, known as, "banker ponies," to the locals, have lived on this 9 mile long island since the 16th century. They have Spainish ancestory, having swam ashore from Spainish shipwrecks long before English settlers arrived.
