Over the past century the Chiropractic profession’s degree program has progressed from professional certificate, to associate degree, to bachelor degree, and now new pathways have emerged to master and doctoral degree programs. There is an increasing awareness on the part of our patients, as well as other health care professions, of academic credentials to include not only board certified specialties but graduate level degrees as well. Across the board of health care fields there is an increasing need to expand the level of academic credentials.

Current and future advanced degree programs accredited by higher education commissions have accelerated the chiropractic profession and specialties along academic pathways to obtain expanded areas of involvement in health care, educational, private sector as well as institutional involvement. It has allowed our specialists to participate in advancement within government service and the military. The planned Master of Science degree in Clinical Orthopedics (previously referred to as PM&R) is still on schedule to be offered in 2012 by Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) Bloomington, Minnesota.

The Master Health of Science degree in Clinical Orthopedics will offer an additional path to the orthopedic specialty Board certification process. A graduate level of education will further increase and develop the skills and knowledge base of current chiropractic physicians that are board certified orthopedic specialists for present and future clinical, hospital and academic demands.
